Dear Friends:
Only a dozen years
ago, Minnesota
was awash in surplus revenue amounting to $4 billion after the
state
budget was passed!
Liberal politicians
erred by committing
this one-time money to permanent government expansion and costs – they
also
failed to correct flaws in the state’s tax laws which created the
problem.
Today, Minnesota’s
fortunes are in
reverse. Instead of annual surpluses, we face severe annual
shortfalls. Our
government’s size has simply exceeded our ability to pay for it.
That’s why, after a
10-year
hiatus, I hope to return to the State Capitol again as a member of the
House of
Representatives – and to work to restore fiscal sanity to our
government.
We can put Minnesota
back on the
path of prosperity if we reverse these trends -- unlimited government
growth, excessive
entitlements, diminishing job opportunities, an over-regulated private
sector and
a crippled economic future for our children.
I bring a seasoned
perspective of
16 years in elected office -- and a track record as a citizen
representative
who fought for sound fiscal principles. For the past 10 years, I have
been a
leader in the non-profit sector serving at the Taxpayers League, the MN
Free
Market Institute and others.
As a wife, mother,
small business
owner and former corporate executive, I am distrustful of arrogant
politicians
who know what’s best for us. I am alarmed, as you may also be, at the
ballooning cost and size of government and the culture of dependency
that is
being fostered. It’s time to put some brakes on this out-of-control
picture..
I am ready to be your
advocate and
your voice for smaller government, lower taxes, individual
responsibility, free
markets and property rights.
Over the course of this
election
season, I look forward to meeting and hearing from many of you. Please
don’t
hesitate to contact me via email or call me on my cell phone,
612-408-0987.
Linda Runbeck,
Candidate
P.S District 53A
